Michael wrote this book from his life experience healing himself and also provides stories of 13 other people who used various methods over their lives to heal themselves.
Overall, improving our emotional well being involves addressing trapped emotions in our physical body. This is probably a new concept for many readers. It also means facing and choosing to heal childhood trauma and abuse which carries over into our adult lives, feeding other abusive relationships. Finally, another concept explains that our DNA carries emotional patterns which, however, can be transmuted.
The book is divided into three parts. Part 1 talks about healing physical/emotional abuse, facing our fears, and stabilizing our minds. In Part 2 we will look at how our codependent behaviors create suffering, how to recover, and increase happiness. We will also see how psychological understanding and energy healing combine in healing our wounded inner child and our unconscious Shadow aspects, which when we ignore these parts of ourselves sabotage every conscious intent for success and happiness. Part 3 begins exploring how our choices keep us locked in suffering or provides ways to lessen it. We see how we have the power to change our unconscious choices to conscious ones. In addition, this part shows how our unique creative talents which we use in fulfilling our life purpose also help others lessen their suffering. Part 3 also examines the importance of paradigm shifts in our perceptions, as well as spiritual awakening occurring on the planet which refers to the dissolving of the illusion of our feeling of separation.
At the beginning of chapter one Michael talks about both personal effort and Divine Grace as necessary for lessening suffering. Throughout this book you can become more aware of your emotional/mental conditioning and make a choice as emotional reactions arise to either remain trapped in the reaction or practice being in the moment. Learning to be in the moment and accepting the reality of what manifests allows the flow of grace, fierce or gentle. The feeling of separateness is at the root of the suffering and drives us to search for escape.
Overcoming suffering requires courage, the courage to face our fears and to speak our truth.
Overcoming suffering requires becoming more aware of our emotional reactions. It requires examining the thoughts that activated the emotions and reprogramming these thoughts. It requires learning and choosing to contain our emotions with love.
Overcoming suffering requires conscious choice rather than a desire to avoid suffering. Once we learn how to stand in the middle of any two emotional reactions, in a state of neutrality, we begin to heal which allows grace to enter our lives.
On a bigger planetary scale our path can take us now – for the first time in human history – from the easing of personal suffering to awakening by a paradigm shift into greater consciousness through Divine Grace and a change in our brains.
