Winning first place is a great honor for Maggie Mei, Melody and Good Times Press as the awards are open to independent book publishers world-wide, making it a very competitive book award.
Two truly interesting things about Maggie Mei Lewis are: she is adopted from China (before her first birthday in 1993) and she wrote Moonlight Memoirs at only thirteen years old!
Please watch this interview with the inspiring teenage book author Maggie Mei Lewis – and please, give her some encouragement and comments below!
At the end of the interview the illustrator, Melody Lea Lamb comes on and shares her personal story of connecting with Maggie and her inspiration for the illustrations.
The Teen Author and The Story
Moonlight Memoirs is an exquisitely illustrated story about two curious mice who venture into a moonlit winter’s night. Their outing becomes a life-changing event when they meet an old mouse who beckons them to follow. This mouse – along with several other animal friends – teaches the two mice a comforting lesson about love’s eternal nature.
An enchanting tale which will delight people of all ages at any time, Moonlight Memoirs is an exceptional resource for children seeking comfort and hope during times of any type of loss, including loss of family, friends, or pets. Moonlight Memoirs tells universal story of eternal love reaches beyond cultural and religious boundaries.
The story offers comfort, hope, and everlasting love to individuals of all ages who are reaching for a shining light in the darkness of grief; as it soothes the child that everything will be all right, no matter what happens to their loved ones.
It illustrates Maggie Mei Lewis’ spiritual insights and deep feelings of connection to those not presently in her life with simple and comprehensible words that will touch children and adults of all ages. Her poetry is calming and reassuring.

Hi Maggie,
Congratulations on so much success with your book!
What your generation is doing with your computers and internet skills is fascinating. I hope the generations can barter between skill sets to help each other grow. We may have life experience, but you have the ability to get it out there and finished very quickly, and are catching up on life experience, too.
I look forward to where you and yours will eventually lead us as you take the reins of leadership.
I wish you continued success,
Sherri
